Demand Senate Republicans Allow Vote on Dilawar Syed

Dilawar Syed is the Biden-Harris nominee to be Deputy Administrator of the SBA

Senate Republicans are attacking Biden-Harris nominee Dilawar Syed over his religion and country of origin and preventing the quorum needed to proceed with a vote on his nomination to be Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA).

If confirmed by the Senate, he will be the highest ranking American Muslim official in the Biden administration.

Unfortunately, but predictably, despite an outpouring of national and local support from Jewish and other community organizations and leaders, Senate Republicans have taken the unprecedented step of boycotting committee meetings, work, and votes in order to stall and block the nomination of a Muslim American leader.

We need a powerful coalition of multi-faith, civil rights, progressive, and community groups and leaders to join a letter urging Senate Small Business and  Entrepreneurship Committee Republicans to end their boycott and allow Mr. Syed to face a vote.

Realizing that many organizations do not take positions on nominations, the letter is a demand an end to the boycott, not a letter endorsing Mr. Syed’s confirmation.

The letter is open to both organizational leaders and individual leaders to sign.

Sign-ons must be submitted by Noon ET on Monday, August 2, 2021.
